New York

Shannon Carroll

Shannon Carroll, NP

PMHNP-BC · Founder

Welcome to my Bio! As a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry, I focus on providing person-centered, holistic care grounded in Rogerian principles. In a therapy session with me you will experience unconditional positive regard, empathy, and presence.

I offer both medication management and psychotherapy, tailored to meet each client's unique needs. If you are already working with a therapist, and just seeking medications we will collaborate closely with your provider.

My clinical training at Housing Works, Bellevue Hospital, Callen-Lorde Community Health Center, NYU SHC, and GMHC gave me invaluable experience in diverse settings.

I currently teach at Rory Meyers Graduate School of Nursing at NYU. In the past, I have shared my expertise at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, and as a guest lecturer at Columbia University School of Social Work.

Prior to being an NP, I was an RN manager of Downtown Emergency Services Center's Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team, in Seattle, Washington.

I work with a diverse group of clients, including but in no way limited to actors, artists, musicians, designers, and those who identify as LGBTQ.

Creative interests: I was a Seattle-based club promoter for several years, and enjoyed background acting in film and television. Currently, I'm enjoying comedy classes, with shows at Gotham Comedy Club and Green Room 42 @ Yotel, NY.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting your mental wellness journey!

Mara Bresnahan, RN, BSN

PMHNP Student · Accessibility Coordinator

Mara Bresnahan, RN, BSN, is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner student with more than 20 years of mental health nursing experience. She is particularly interested in supporting young adults navigating transitions, including college, early adulthood, identity development, relationships, and emerging independence, as well as artists and creatives balancing their emotional well-being with the demands of a full life.

Mara brings warmth, curiosity, and a collaborative approach to her clinical work. She strives to create a space where clients feel comfortable being fully themselves and where treatment reflects each person's individual strengths, values, identities, and goals. Her clinical interests include anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, relationship concerns, and the emotional challenges that often accompany change and uncertainty.

Outside of nursing, Mara has worked extensively in film, the arts, and disability inclusion, giving her a firsthand understanding of creative communities and nontraditional career paths. She is completing her psychiatric nurse practitioner training at Northeastern University and currently provides care under clinical supervision at MetroNP Boston.

NP Interns

Julian David Anderson
NP intern from NYU · Summer 2026 – Spring 2027

Julian David Anderson, BSN, RN

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Student

Julian Anderson is a registered nurse and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing. He currently works as an emergency department nurse in New York City.

Julian is drawn to psychiatry because of his belief in the healing potential of authentic human connection. He values a person-centered approach that emphasizes empathy, curiosity, and meeting people where they are in their lives. Through his clinical training at MetroNP, he hopes to deepen his skills in providing thoughtful, evidence-based mental health care while supporting individuals on their paths toward growth and wellness.

Outside of nursing, Julian has been a lifelong musician, songwriter, and performer. From orchestras to rock and roll bands, he has toured throughout the United States and is currently working on his debut solo record. His experiences in creative communities have given him a deep appreciation for both the inspiration and challenges that often accompany the creative process. He is particularly interested in supporting artists, musicians, and other creative individuals navigating mental health concerns.

Julian also maintains a regular mindfulness and meditation practice and is interested in the ways mindfulness, self-compassion, and acceptance can support emotional well-being. He looks forward to working with the MetroNP community during his clinical training.

Sam Ponce-Hobby

Sam Ponce-Hobby, BSN, RN

Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Intern

Hi, my name is Sam and I am thrilled to be working as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Intern at MetroNP. I currently work as a nurse in a gender affirming clinic and previously worked on a pre/post surgical floor at NYU Langone. As a board certified holistic nurse and reiki provider, I am dedicated to providing compassionate and inclusive care for each client.

My professional background is uniquely rooted in the hospitality industry, where I worked for over a decade, gaining experience in crisis management, interdisciplinary communication, and adaptive problem-solving. Outside of nursing, I am trained in restorative yoga, enjoy floral design/gardening, and have a deep love for anything crafty and DIY. I find inspiration in art, nature and family life, which fuel my creative approach to healthcare. I look forward to working with our creative and diverse community.
